Artistic Plates
The Morris Lapidus Dishware collection represents the first time a world-renowned American architect designed a line of dishware that was created posthumously, and is the only known style of its kind in the world. It is truly one-of-a-kind, limited edition and is available exclusively at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach Signature Shop.The architect of the original DiLido hotel, Morris Lapidus loved entertaining his friends in his home every Friday and Saturday night. He had more than five full table settings from which to choose, and each place setting included sometimes 30 individual items. Such was his love of dining. He had designed dishes for his hotels, as well as a personal set monogrammed ML for more informal home dining. In 1999 when asked to design a dishware set, he gladly turned to his cheesehole, beanpole and woggle designs for inspiration. It would take five years to see these dishes appreciated and put into production after a meeting between Deborah Desilets (Lapidus’s last collaborator and muse) and Ritz-Carlton, South Beach General Manager John Rolfs, who was inspired to make personalized dishes in the architect’s honor for use in the hotel and to share the joy of Lapidus’s style with the exquisite palate of The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.
