Alan McCarter
The ethereal beauty and spiritual inspiration of the Blue Ridge and Great Smokey Mountains drew Alan McCarter to North Carolina to become a full-time artist. Alan McCarter’s style is soft idealized, romantic realism, using acrylic in a rich, classic technique. Bonnie J. Smith
Bonnie J. Smith is fascinated with modern architecture, the furniture of the 1950’s, water towers, and recently, glass. Sometimes these fascinations are apparent in her decorative clay work. The geometric starkness of her retro, pop-art style tiles is in contrast with the unpredictable inconsistency of her firing methods. Bonnie assembles the decorative tiles into self-contained wall hangings as shown here, and sometimes incorporates functional elements such as a mirror. She also creates individual tiles and custom murals that can be used as fireplace surrounds or in other decorative applications.

Catherine Labbe
Catherine Labbe was drawn to art at a very early age, and always had a box of crayons nearby which evolved to a box of oil pastels and a sketch pad. While in art school she took a printmaking class and fell in love with the linoleum printing process. She then began experimenting with the monotype printing method. A monotype print is a unique, singular image pulled from one or more multiple plates. Catherine uses Plexiglas plates that can be independently inked. Ink is applied to each plate in various methods. The monotypes are created using multiple plates to develop a layering of colors. She begins by applying ink based oils onto the plate as if she were painting on canvas, which gives the image a painterly quality. She may then add a second plate using a subtractive method, which is usually done with a darker ink such as a blue black. The entire plate is inked and then certain areas of the ink are removed with rags or brushes to allow the area printed by the first plate to come forward, which enhances the shapes and colors of the image. Each print is pulled by hand using a manual press and printed on handmade or cotton rag acid free paper.
